What to Expect

Being admitted to a psychiatric hospital for the first time may be frightening to patients and their loved ones. We’d like to dispel those fears by explaining how our dedicated  psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, dietitians and mental health technicians work together to meet patients’ need with a combination of therapy, medication and health services.

Below is an overview of how we maximize quality of life and help individuals return to the community as soon as appropriate.

Comprehensive Health and Psychiatric Evaluation

Each patient’s stay begins with an evaluation of his or her medical history and circumstances. This helps us quickly understand the individual’s situation and develop a treatment plan that can be implemented right away.

Medication Assessment

Since drug side effects can trigger psychiatric episodes, particularly in older people, we assess each patient’s prescription regimen. We look for potential medication interactions and whether there have been issues in complying with doctor’s orders.

Nutrition Assessment

Psychiatric episodes can be triggered by nutritional problems. Since vitamin and mineral deficiencies are more common with age, we screen for dietary habit that may be having a negative impact on patient’s memory, mood or behavior.

Pain Assessment

Older adults are at a higher risk of suffering from chronic pain. To ensure patients in our care are as comfortable as possible, we use a verity of methods to evaluate their pain and determine what therapies will work best for them.

Therapeutic Activities

We encourage patients to participate in a variety of therapeutic and engaging activities during their stay. These individual and group activities can help calm anxiety, as well as reduce symptoms of dementia or other psychiatric conditions.

Educational Support

Our mental health experts can provide educational support to help patients and their families prevent future psychiatric episodes. Assistance available includes stress management, coping skills, medication usage and health and wellness.
